Android smartphone users can add more connectivity to their Garmin nüvi personal navigation device (PND) with the launch of Garmin Smartphone Link, which is an app that will keep users up-to-date both in the car and on foot with the latest safety camera, weather and fuel price information.
Garmin Smartphone Link is compatible with selected Bluetooth-enabled 2012 Garmin nüvi devices, offering a seamless navigation experience between your PND and Android smartphone. Using the app, you can add a number of new services to your nüvi through your smartphone’s existing mobile data plan, making it easy to navigate with confidence.
Available for free in Google Play, the app includes several live services at no additional cost. These include the Garmin Tracker application, which allows you to send links to authorised friends on Facebook and Twitter so they can follow your movement. The app also offers a ‘Send to GPS feature’, which allows you to wirelessly transmit an address stored in your smartphone to your PND so you can begin navigating immediately.
With Smartphone Link, you can access live weather information without any additional costs. MyGarmin messaging provides update notifications and special offers from Garmin, while Star POI Ratings allows you to provide feedback to Garmin by rating points of interest on the map.
Garmin Smartphone Link also offers premium services available through subscription. These include Safety Cameras, a service which alerts you to fixed and mobile safety cameras to help you arrive safely at your destination. You can also download Fuel Prices, which locates the best price for fuel in your area.
The app works with the nüvi 2495LMT, 2595LMT, 3490LMT and the all-new 3590LMT, Garmin’s most feature-packed 5-inch nüvi. All models except the nüvi 3590LMT require a software update to be compatible with Garmin Smartphone Link.
Garmin Smartphone Link is available from Google Play for free.
